What is Take Part?
Our values
Take Part is based on the values of
- Social justice
- Participation
- Equality
- Diversity
- Co-operation
The aim is to provide programmes of active learning that enable people to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to become empowered citizens – citizens who are able to make an active contribution to their communities and influence public policies and services.
Take Part is supported by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Take Part is part of the government’s Together We Can campaign to enable more people to work with public bodies and the decisions about local services.
The Learning and Skills Council supports Take Part.
The recent White Paper, Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances recognised the importance of learning because, as the Prime Minister said in 2005, 'Learning is good for your health, your self-esteem and your employability.' Within this broad canvas of learning for personal and community development, the LSC has identified within its Statement of Priorities, Raising our Game, the value of education as the great equaliser, the cornerstone of employability, social justice and sustainable communities.
I therefore warmly welcome the publication of the Take Part Framework. It will be an invaluable touchstone to guide improved collaboration between local agencies to deliver learning opportunities through which people can develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become more active as citizens, to influence their communities and to improve their chances of rewarding economic participation. We are pleased to be working with NIACE and the Take Part National Network to support active learning for active citizenship within our wider priorities and commitments.
Melanie Hunt, National Director of Learning, Learning and Skills Council.
